The Hohe Tauern national park is with 1.856 square meters the largest national park in middle Europe. Over 15.000 different animals have made the 1.856 square metres of countryside their home. The fascinating wilderness stretches from the valley’s to the highest summits and can be discovered on numerous hiking paths.The national park is open around the clock and is free of charge to visit.

 

The national park house in Matrei in East Tirol – only 15 minutes travel time from the family hotel Replerhof – promises moments of amazement: In more rooms of exploration, the living environment of the nature reserve are presented. The exhibition is also free of charge and encourages and appetite for discovering the freedom of nature.

In the primeval forest of the national park over 1.800 plants live in a unique environment. The higher the forest lies, the shorter the period of vegetation. The plants in the Hohe Tauern national park have adapted to their respective habitats.

The Hohe Tauern national park includes 13 national park valleys and rivers: The Krimmler waterfalls, the Umbal waterfall in East Tirol and the Gößnitz waterfall in Carinthia are examples for the strength of water, which falls over steep walls. There are almost 500 lakes in the region.

The nature reserve is a home for many wild animals: The Ibex are on the step rocky slopes, the eagles circle above with a wingspan of over 2 metres. The vulture, an endangered species among birds of prey has returned to this habitat.
