The Virgen valley is of awe-inspiring beauty: Only the valley base is inhabited and farmed by people. The agricultural landscape is recognised as a World Heritage Site. The forests above are untouched, they are out of reach for forestry therefore remain unused. They can be named as the last primeval forests in Austria. Above the tree line there are shrubs and meadows that are used for grazing cattle in the summer. Above the snow line there is no vegetation as the snow and ice prevents growth.

CLIMBING GARDEN GROSSVENEDIGER
The climbing garden on Großvenediger is an adventure for young and old. The area lies in the middle of the countryside, surrounded by rocks and stone, between trees and streams. The visit offers a complete workout and is very good for co-ordination. When you finish the course you can return satisfied to the family hotel Replerhof. Adults and children can be proud of each other.
UMBALFÄLLE
In the summer months it is possible to take a horse and carriage ride with Noriker horses up to the Islitzer alm which can be reached within 20 minutes. The rustic mountain hut is renowned for its traditional cuisine, form cold meat platters to “Kaiserschmarren” and apricot dumplings. A nature trail leads from the mountain hut past the impressive Stufen waterfalls. Close to the waterfall tiny water droplets fill the air and catch the light – a truly magical moment!
NATIONAL PARK WILDLIFE TOUR
Take the children and a pair of binoculars, which are available from us! Pack yourselves a picnic from the breakfast buffet and walk into the Timmel valley. Here you will find marmots, ibex and chamois frolicking around. In lofty heights you see the golden eagles and vultures flying. A two kilometre long river runs the length of the valley... the perfect opportunity for dipping your toes into cold mountain water!
